Put Out the Flame
A cold war set in an apartment. A couple tries to hold on to each other as they fall out of tune. Can they find each other again?
In Put Out the Flame ordinary life is exposed in extraordinary ways: virtuosity, gesture and magic open a window onto the micro-tragedies of everyday life, its intimacy and indifference, suspicions and disappointments. The characters and their relationship are exposed in their compulsions and convulsions, with the movement language driving the story.
Put Out the Flame is a collaboration between Jos Baker/Trodden Dreams and MW Dance Theatre, first produced for the Hong Kong Arts Festival’s Hong Kong Jockey Club Contemporary Dance Series in 2019, where it was shown as a double bill with The Smallest Little Thing. A screen adaptation followed in 2021.
